Customer ratings and reviews for HP Scanjet G4050 Photo Scanner

Rated 2 out of 5 by Not for Mac Users I purchased this directly by phone from HP because I wanted to be sure to get a general scanner that would be able to scan medium format (120mm) slides and films. This one does. However, this scanner does not work properly with, and that there were no instructions for, a Mac. HP doesn't even have instructions online for use with a Mac. The scanner worked fine for scanning prints, but there was a loop bug in the for-Mac software that would not allow me to scan slides or film. When I tried to live-chat with HP, their website told me they did not support this scanner (that I had just bought directly from them) and would not let me live-chat with their technicians. So I returned the scanner and bought a similar other-brand scanner, which works well with my Mac. It is too bad, because the G4050 appears to be very well made and has a number of useful features, including well-designed film and slide holders. With some good Mac software, instructions, and chat support I think this would have been a great scanner for me. March 7, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by photo scanner Purchased this scanner to preserve old family photos and save them digitally...so far very pleased with how easy the scanner is to use and the quality of the photos also. February 11, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Does not do the job I have spent the past three days on line chat trying to get this machine to do multiple photo scans. I have tried version 9 and 13, on two different computers, with two different operating systems, and none of the scans are satisfactory although every scan is different. You never know what it is going to do. It may crop one picture out of 4, 2, 3. It may send one, 2 3, or none of the pictures to file. It is completely unsatisfactory and does not do as it is advertised. I will be contacting HP for return instructions. Completely dissatisfied. February 9, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Caption labelling I find the product very good scanner; however, HP needs to adopt an IPTC/XMP labelling standard. I spent a day scanning and labelling pix only to find that the caption was not included when emailed the pix or sent via dropbox. This problem needs to be disclosed in the information. I feel that there should be more documentation sent with product. I had to go back to pix and right click on each one and then to details to imbed caption so that it would go with pix. Today is a new world and HP needs to make fully compatible with Windows 7. I was told that it would have worked with Outlook Express but not Windows Live. I have not been able to see if that is true. Rated 2 out of 5 by Workks, but.................. Scanning is slow but good quality. Two week old scanner is no longer supported by HP. Acceressarys and parts not available. Customer service is a joke and not a good one. January 26, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not easy to use as expected. The user guide's instructions for this HP Scanjet G4050 scanner does not match with what comes out on the monitor screen. On pg. 15 in the section titled "E-mail a document or picture", Item 2 states the "what are you scanning" dialog box will appear, but there is none. Is there another guide specifically for my model, G4050, rather than for all of the G4000 series? Please advise, Thank you January 24, 2012
