Customer ratings and reviews for HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One - N911n

Rated 5 out of 5 by HP is the best!!! I had a HP 6400 previously and liked it. It died and I (thinking I would try something different...)ordered a Lexmark printer. I hated it. It wouldn't ever scan for me, it was slow....need I say more? So....I unplugged the Lexmark, put it in my garage and ordered the HP 8600! Took 3 days to get it and 20 minutes to set up. It is so much faster when printing, copying, faxing and it scanned for me right away and was so easy!!! I will never, never order another printer other than a HP again....I have learned my lesson! April 14, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by HP Office Jet Pro Premium all in one printer I have a small at home business and this printer has worked well. However, the seller did not inform me that it only works if it has a usb port cable of only 6 feet. We had a 9 foot cable due to space in my office. The extra time waiting for the 6 ft. cable was undesirable along with the added expense of purchasing the cable. The printer could not fit next to my desk since the printer is so tall with 2 paper trays. I have not learned if it will work if I take off the bottom paper tray. Otherwise the printing comes out great. I am happy I bought the printer for all it does. April 13, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Thrice ordered, twice burned First, HP order system filled in "shipped to" address from last order (over two years ago) automatically, I didn't catch, so nearly got sent to old apartment (my fault and HP system fault). Customer service was GREAT! Stopped order delivery and processed refund. Placed second order for same printer. Arrived quickly. Upon setup, got carriage return jam. Would not reset. Tech support had me do things I KNEW would not help - wasted about an hour of my time. Connected with people to process return. Again, customer service was great, FedEx pickup of return excellent, pretty painless process. Case manager tells me to call her when I get new printer to help with setup. New printer arrives, but case manager only works to 5:30 so I call tech support. They don't have current information (ink cartridge carrier is LOCKED in stored position when downpowered). I finally figure out that power must be on to install ink cartridges, much to tech support's surprise. Install cartridges, "leaky cartridges" message, which will not reset despite multiple power on/off, remove and reinstall cartridges, etc. Tech support says call case manager during working hours. Call case manager only to find out that she's off, and I shouldn't have been talking wth her anyway, so they transfer me to Home office customer service. We will refund your money, rather than send another printer. REALLY? Would you like to try a diferent model? WHY WOULD I? Done with HP printers. Excellent customer service, which unfortunately you have to use, because they can't make a printer that works! April 11, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by All around great purchase for my home I have a small real estate business – I purchase and rent homes, so I need a reliable printer, copier, scanner, fax machine but it does not have to be a work horse like in a larger office. I did a lot of research before purchasing this printer and it paid off. My requirements for a printer/scanner 1. Peppy black and white printer 2. Quality of print does not matter 3. Color is not a requirement 4. Scan to email is a requirement 5. Good scanner paper feed 6. WiFi connectivity is a convenience 7. Larger than normal paper capacity for home office printers 8. Ease of use 9. Top feed scanner for multiple document scans 10. I want to go a while before replacing ink 11. Low cost of operation All my requirements are met with this printer, and more. There are plently of places you can read about the features of the printer, but I want to highlight a few of them here: Right out of the box, I enjoyed this printer. The weight and size of the unit gave me a clue that this was a serious printer. If you do not want something that is large, this device is certainly not for you. I have ample space and a good place for the printer, so never an issue with me. It took me about an hour to setup, but I was taking my time and tinkering along the way (setting up email to print, jacking with my laptops, etc.). Because of all of the features on the printer, there are multiple things to set up. I did stumble on a few minor counter intuitive things along the way, but certainly no herculean effort to figure out. I initially had the printer in WiFi mode, but I have found that it operates with fewer interruptions simply plugged into the network. I do not find that surprising or much different from anything else on my WiFi setup. I have since improved my WiFi setup, but thought it might be important to note that WiFi is not a panacea of connectivity in all cases. As far as basic functionality, this printer performs exactly as advertised. It prints and scans at a more than reasonable rate. I do not find myself “waiting on the printer.” The scanner has a clean grab and scan feature, which I really appreciate. Scanners that grab more than one page at a time are frustrating and I would return the printer if it did not perform well in this category. My favorite feature is scan to email. I use that function second only to printing. I have not found anywhere where this feature was demonstrated our touted, but this is one of the coolest things for me. I use my credentials for my email service and have assigned an email address to my printer. The printer emails me my scanned documents and I forward on to the intended recipient in most cases - Quick and easy. Something that surprised me is how “cool” the ink cartridge replacement is, if you can call that feature “cool.” The designers thought this process through. When you lift up the face to replace the ink, a light aluminates the inside of the printer, the cartridges home out of the back and pop out where you can easily reach them. You simply push in and they pop out for easy replacement. Needless to say, I am happy with this printer. I would recommend this printer to my Mom. April 11, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Finally...... In 15 years as a small business, I've purchased too many printers. Mostly mediocre. Mostly HP. My last - the HP Officejet Pro 7780 - was the worst and I swore would be my last HP printer. Starting w/the holidays, and you name the store, I started shopping printers. When the 7780 died quite suddenly 6 weeks ago, (coughing up BOTH brand new printheads all over the printer and work area in the process ($150, thank you HP), I looked online, didn't find what I really wanted so I hastily ordered the 8600 e (from Staples). Within a day, that one failed as well. Of course it's Friday afternoon, architectural plans/plots and proposals are due Monday morning, and I'm just a little frustrated. So I called HP. They had a new one here Saturday morning, and, I'm LOVING it. (BTW, get the 2 tray, Premium model - it's worth whatever extra). This machine is improved in ALL areas. A big one is in printing photos. We present clients with custom project binders and until now, we've never been happy with the results. We are now. The scanner works faster, and the ADF is slick and tight. The envelope tray - hello. Finally a graphic in the tray so I don't have to remember how to feed/place them, as few as I print. Paper/envelope tray sliding plastic/metal guides (width and length) - also slick. MUCH improved over the 7700. The only drawback is the screen and how it responds to touch. It's not sensitive at all, seems to require an inordinate amount of pressure to respond. But much of the screen function is already in the HP utility, so no big deal. If you want the one tray model, you'll find a cheaper price in your big box store. In my view, HP hasn't achieved performance like this in an office printer since their Laserjet II. I can only hope my 8600 Premium will continue to perform, and age, as well as that dinosaur did. Finally................... April 7, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 8600 Premium The printer works well. The few problems that I have are as follows: the feeder does not easily let the paper slip in and I have to work it so it will lay correctly in the feeder the default is letter size paper and not legal and it is troublesome to switch back and forth because you not only have to choose legal size, you also have to change the tray from top to bottom. When I am printing legal, I cannot tell the printer to choose the bottom or top tray and the fax function cannot tell whether to take letter or legal size paper March 29, 2012
