Customer ratings and reviews for HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter - N811a/N811d

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fast printer I love how fast this printer is, my old printer was almost 2 min. per page. This one just spits it out. March 1, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Happy Camper Was a little nervous to buy this since it was so new and not many reviews were available for it yet. So far, no real issues. It's a little bigger than what I thought it was going to be, but it's really sleek and professional looking so I don't mind. It was really easy to install. Setting up the e-print feature was a little weird. It kept saying the printer's e-print feature wasn't enabled, and whenever I would hit the e-print button on the printer, it would flash but wouldn't stay on. I read through the troubleshooting options online, and luckily the first suggestion worked: turn off the printer and turn it back on, turn off the wireless on the printer and turn it back on. After that, when I hit the e-print button, it worked fine and has stayed on. Print speeds are fast for single-sided text documents. Haven't tried printing with the automatic 2-sided print feature yet or anything full color. Wireless connection and AirPrint seem to work flawlessly. March 1, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good printer but scanner problems! I have had this pronter a couple of months. All seems to work well EXCEPT I have been unable to scan to my computer. I have spent several days trying to research and fix the problem...no luck. I have have resorted to scanning to a flash drive and then saving to my computer....a fruistrating work around! Rated 3 out of 5 by So far, so good So far, so good Cons: problems with the full version drivers I purchased this with some fear and trepidation because of the multitude of software (driver) problems I had with the HP D5460. I have had the unit for only two weeks but so far it has worked well with the exception that there are serious problems with the full version of the drivers. Fortunately, HP offers a basic version of the drivers which, with one exception, has worked well. I tried the full version, after initially installing the basic version, because i concluded (incorrectly) that I needed the full version in order to get the help and manual features. The manual and help files can be installed by selecting Install More Software from the disk that comes with the unit. The problems with the full version drivers is complicated to explain but, in short, I was not able to print in draft mode. The one problem with the basic version involves printing a jpg or Corel PhotoPaint file that have been created in Corel PhotoPaint. In which case, they print at twice the normal size. I have not yet contacted HP technical service to help resolve this. Hopefully, they will have a solution. Note that photograph jpg files print without any problem. The printing quality of photos meets my requirements but they may not be as demanding as that of a photo enthusiast. One of the primary reasons for purchasing this product was that, from what little information I could find, it seemed to be relatively efficient as far as ink usage was concerned. It is always a challenge to quantity ink usage but so far it looks promising from that standpoint. I have printed about 20 4" X6" photos and about 20 B&W text pages and the cartridges that came with the unit have about 80% of their initial quantity of ink left. Remember that the cartridges that come with the unit have significantly less ink than their replacements. I am hopeful that, in time, I will be able to give this a higher rating but the problems with the drivers and uncertainty about the ink usage dictate a 3 star rating for now. February 20, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better than the 8000 Which I loved! It prints headers and footers on front and back properly!!! I've had an HP 8000 for a couple of years and have run 11,000 pages through it. It has proved economical and has good plain paper color printing. I don't use it for photos since I have archival Epson printers for that task. Recently I have had to remove the print heads and clean them to remove streaking at normal print mode. In Best print mode the streaking isn't apparent. I love the duplex printing, and almost everything I print is on both sides. That means I have really printed about 25,000 pages or the equivalent of 50 reams of paper. Wow! I recently began printing a 200 page book I wrote and discovered a well known problem with the 8000 duplex feeder mechanism. Headers and footers do not print in the same spots on the front and back sides of the paper. This was very discouraging since I had to print all the odd pages back to front then replace the pages in the printer and print all the even pages front to back. The 8100 does not have this problem!!! I am so pleased I could jump for joy!!!. The cost of the 8100 is the same cost as the replacement print heads of the 8000, so I feel like a winner all around. Rated 1 out of 5 by Worst HP Purchase Ever 8100 printer did not work at all. Caused me at least 2 days of non-productive aggravation. Would not advise anyone to purchase this printer. Having better luck with HP Officejet Pro 8600. Much better printer, but the jury is still out. Had to replace first one because autofeeder did not work. Just received replacement 8600. Stay tuned, February 17, 2012
