Customer ratings and reviews for HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC with Windows 7 (ENERGY STAR)

Rated 1 out of 5 Sent ENVY laptop back I place the ENVY on the same work surface where I use 4 other HP laptops. The very first thing I noted was that the left front corner of the laptop was not in contact with the surface. When I placed my hands on the keyboard, the laptop rocked. I immediately returned the laptop to HP. July 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love My New Pc Great Pc Runs All The Games Today Hp Will Always Be My Computer Store Never Had Such Great Service From Any Other Competitor! HP LOVE YOUR ELECTRONICS! July 8, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by A nice 8 laptop but poor 7 performance This model of laptop replaced my old HP Pavilion after repeated motherboard failures on HP's tech support's part, so they offered me this one to compensate though with Windows 8 as the OS. While this laptop is great from the screen size [big and spacious] to the touchpad [albeit a bit annoying when tapping and scrolling], it became a considerable flop when I had Windows 7 ordered and on it. Every now and again the wireless connection would drop for no reason, forcing me to run troubleshooting to fix the default gateway on repeated occasions, throwing off my general online experience [note that this never happened with any other of our laptops]. Furthermore, OS took longer to boot up than when I had Windows 8 on it despite the specs I ordered [i7 processor and 12GB of memory], which also put me off since my Pavilion took considerably less time to boot up/resume from sleep. The nail in the coffin was when the laptop randomly shut off on me without warning and wouldn't boot back up for about an hour. HP has let me down some times in the past, and while I was excited about them reviving the use of Windows 7, this purchase was a real let-down despite the properties I had set on it. Fortunately I was able to return this laptop for a full refund and ordered a less powerful [but also more reliable] computer. Here's hoping HP will also bring back their Win7 laptops as well, like the dv4 and so on. June 29, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not as advertised Customization options show a double sized battery implying that if you order the upgraded option in "Primary Battery" section you'll get either a double-sized battery or a stackable battery. (stackable batteries have been seen in other laptop models) But what you receive is two individual and independent batteries. So your battery life isn't actually doubled as promised in the option. If I'm successful in uploading a photo, you'll see the text saying "The right battery can keep you and your notebook PC working longer" (notice it doesn't say "batteries"). Apparently I didn't get the "right" battery. I've lost $40 trusting HPs description. Hopefully I wont be burned on other options. I'm regretting my decision to order from HP and not Costco. Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent laptop hampered by bad touchpad I ordered the 15t-j100 to replace my venerable and battle-worn 3.5-year-old Pavilion dv8t-1200, which was, hands down, the best laptop I've ever owned. After only a couple weeks, here's my experience with the Envy 15t-j100. THE GOOD: - Excellent features for the price - Comes with Windows 7 (a HUGE selling point for me) - It's a beautiful, sleek, lightweight machine - Love the keyboard (and I didn't even purchase the backlit option) THE BAD: - The touchpad. My god, the touchpad. I'm not the only one complaining about it--you'll find nearly every consumer review of this laptop calls out the touchpad as its major weakness, and they're not lying. The entire touchpad is mounted on a very stiff hinge, meaning that you can click the bottom edges--with sometimes Herculean effort, which is bad enough. But far worse than this is the fact that the entire touchpad is touch-sensitive, including the space where my thumb is naturally inclined to rest on the left click button. This means that the cursor has a tendency to jump around during precision clicking, since it senses both my thumb and index finger on the pad. There is, conceivably, a way to fix this. The Synaptics suite that comes with the touch pad allows you to define live areas of the touch pad with what it calls "Smart Sense." Theoretically, this means you can deaden the lower centimeter or so where your thumb would rest. Unfortunately, when you have "Smart Sense" enabled, you cannot both move the mouse and type at the same time. This is a critical failing for gamers, and one I feel acutely, as one of my main activities on this laptop is playing Guild Wars 2. Given that, "Smart Sense" must be disabled on my machine. I've read a forum suggestion to fix sticky felt or fabric to the bottom edge of the touchpad to physically and forcibly deaden it. Who knows--I might try that out, though it angers me to be forced to those extremes. The other major problem with the touch pad is that there is a slight tooth to the surface of it. My finger frequently fails to "glide" across it as it did on the slick and glossy Pavilion touchpad, making tracking and clicking even more imprecise. I have customized the Synaptics settings and rendered this touchpad as comfortable as possible, at least for my own preferences, but I'm still not happy. To critics who would ask me to change my touchpad behaviors, after years of excellent Pavilion touchpads, I would say: If the intent in this design is to force the user to tap-click (a habit I have never gotten into because it handicaps my precision), why provide clicking buttons at all? I'd also say that avoiding this entire problem by using a USB mouse takes the "lap" out of "laptop." Since the touchpad is such a huge part of human interaction with this laptop, I'm very honestly on the fence about whether or not I could personally recommend the Envy 15t-j100. I chose "yes" because, again, the features are excellent for this price point. Whether the touchpad problems will bother you depends very much on your experience and preferences. June 24, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by As Advertised Product arrived about a week late. Setup was easy and ready to use. Five days later a bunch of HP updates were automatically installed. Thence, the wireless connection was lost. I found that the wireless adapter file was missing after the update and unable to download the file. June 18, 2014
