When I connect my mobile hard drive (Hitachi, old model), one single USB port can not provide enough power to let the drive run. I have to use a kind of special wire connected to two USB ports. Just double the power.
This problem doesn't exist on my previous laptop.

Honestly i like this laptop a lot i have the hp envy 15t-j100 quad edition which is no linger on the websit i got it a couple weeks ago and it is well performing except for a few complaints
1. The laptop is powerful with an i7 but I wish there was an Nvidia 850m graphics option
2. The laptop gets really really really hot like hot to the touch on the bottom
3. The charging port is a bit loose and the screen flexes a decent amount
Overall it is a fine laptop wish it would be better for paying over $800 the laptop is scare close to overheating when playing games

Rated 4 out of 5Â by JEFTC Great overall except the mouse pad
This laptop has been great so far with the exception of the mouse pad. There are no separate buttons for right or left click, and the areas that you push to click are touch sensitive, so the pointer moves if your fingers move at all, making the mouse pad difficult to use. Otherwise, it's hard to beat the features for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Keepit88 The Envy 15t-j100 Quad is very quiet.
My previous notebook was a Pavilion dv-7 17" screen. It was a boat anchor that produced a lot of heat and fan noise. This notebook is very quiet and light.
The system came with Win 7 Professional installed with an i7-4700 processor, USB Recovery 64 bit recovery stick, NVidia graphics, 12GB memory, a 1TB hard drive, an external DVD, 10/100/1000 GB Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, no mSSD hard drive accelerator, 1366x768 display, std keyboard, web cam and Beats audio. McAfee LiveSafe, 7-Zip, HP SimlePass Identity protection and a HP Connected Suite. I purchased a spare battery, also.
Everything worked directly out of the box. The setup was easy and everything seemed to work well. Start-up was fast, but didn't time it. The RJ-45 connector has slipped out on occasion with little effort.
However, there are way too many pre-installed applications on this computer. The "SWSetup" directory has cryptic names that make no sense unless one clicks on the .ini files (i.e.; sp64996) to find their use. One then must go to Control Panel''s "Programs & Features" to find which are installed. This was the same on my Pavilion dv-7 and I commented about that, too. HP seems to ignore feedback asking for less installed apps. There are enough installed games (17 in all) to tempt me from doing real work. Most will be removed.
The keyboard has a very good feel. The touch pad is not a problem as other reviews intimated. Having most external connectors on the right is a bit distracting for right handed people. I use a mouse primarily. The screen is bright and readable without any adjusting. The webcam works well with Skype.
Battery life has not been tested as yet, but will do so soon.
I have used this notebook for 18 days after receipt, installing my AV suite, Thunderbird, Firefox, Secunia PSI, WinPatrol, LibreOffice, RoboForm and a couple other apps. Installation was easy. My U-Verse connection was almost automatic with little input from me. I partitioned my 1TB hard drive to keep the OS, apps and data out of the way. There's a lot of space for data.
The look and feel of this notebook is crisp and clean. I have no problem with the weight at 4.8lbs. I never had issues with my dv-7 and expect none with the 15t-j100.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Steve1953 Great computer
So far, the Envy has been great. Got Windows 7 Pro and upgraded video card. Disappointed that HP Envy doesn't have capability of a docking station/port replicator. HP reps sold me on a Targus powered 3.0 powered docking station, but while it handled all my peripherals it would not allow me to use the larger monitor I purchased because the Targus SW would simply not recognize it after several attempts! Too bad.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Mike265 Great looking product-too bad it would not work!
I was excited to receive my new laptop! I am a long time user of HP and thought I would be happy with my decision to purchase from HP. Envy was received and looked great. Shortly after receiving and using the machine, it would just shut off without user action. Tried factory default setup and no luck! Machine was returned for refund!!
