Customer ratings and reviews for HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC with Windows 7 (ENERGY STAR)

Rated 5 out of 5 by EXCELLENT! It was great being able to buy a new laptop with Windows 7! (I despise Windows 8). Set up was simple and it works great. I love it! September 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great laptop Light, and since we ordered Win 7, easy to use, nice picture and sound is excellent. September 16, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Battery not charging Got the laptop, power on and the battery is not charging. Call tech support and they sent me a new power adapter. That doesn't solve the problem. They told me to ship it back for repair. So just sit and wait for 10 more days. I expect this product to work right out of the box. It doesn't! That is disappointing. Plain and simple. Rated 4 out of 5 by HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC Easy to be thin when the DVD/CD transport is external to the laptop. Performance is speedy with the I7 processor. Apparently, HP has the stuff shipped directly from China to the end user. The state of updates on the OS and applications was far behind: the first round of updates were 65 in number. Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent with a couple minor reservations I previously used an HP-8510w so I was looking for a successor. I ordered my custom HP Envy from the HP website. After using the HP Envy for over a week, I find it pretty near excellent. Pluses: - 1920 x 1080 screen resolution was one of the main criteria for my purchase. It's incredibly sharp for movies, image editing, etc. - core 7 processor has plenty of horse power for CPU intensive work - 1TB disk is greater than my needs, so I'm happy. - Build quality is excellent. Weight is excellent. I like the fact that the CD/DVD drives are now external devices since it reduces size & weight. - Love the back-lit keyboard Minus: [These are minor issues which may be particular to my personal tastes] - audio is nothing special. It's good, bu the Beats equalizer isn't anything special. It just amps up the base. - keyboard: I do a lot of programming in several languages, so keyboard is important to me as I use it all day long. (1) The delete key is rather small and on the top row. It should be larger as I tend to hit the Home key right next to it. A larger key would be easier to see at a side glance. (2) In programming I use the function keys (F1, F2, F3, etc.) a lot. On the HP Envy keyboard the top row of keys has functions such as screen brightness, volume, wi-fi on/off, fast-forward, etc. The F1-F12 keys are accessed by hold down the function (fn) key at the bottom of the keyboard and then selecting F1.., etc. F3, for example is used a lot in editing (eg. "find next"). I find the fn+F3 sequence annoying since it's a two-finger operation. I would love to swap the functions of the top tier keys. I would be nice if key assignments were programmable. (3) The up and down cursor keys are too small and cramped. Have to use the the keypad for cursor. Except for the issue with the keyboard, I'm really happy with the HP Envy and would recommend it. I especially liked the way I could customize it on the HP website so I could get exactly the laptop I wanted. September 9, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not performing well at all I have had this laptop for less than a month, but so far it has been a real disappointment. Today alone, it froze up on me 4 separate times while I was doing simple tasks, and I could not proceed any further. I had to shut down, restart and begin my tasks from the very start. It freezes up a lot when I hit a drop-down menu and select a choice. And when I select an e-mail to read. It's become very frustrating because it is happening with regularity but at unpredictable times. I haven't called Customer Service yet, but I will soon. September 8, 2014
