Rated 4 out of 5Â by ShaNY Love the backlit keyboard
Takes a little getting used to Windows 8, but overall was easy to work with. I DO NOT like the mouse pad at all. The cursor is always moving all over the place, the screen gets big, then gets small and I cannot just get it to stay and be where I want to be. Now I am sorry I didn't get the touchscreen, but the reviews for that weren't so great. Haven't had it long enough to say that it has great features. I only know what I don't like about it.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by MRaatz Overall great product
I like the new HP Envy 17t-j100 Select Edition that I purchased. It runs fast and the screen is large enough and has a decent resolution for comfortable viewing. I'm glad that it came with a disk drive, as some laptops do not these days.
There are only two things about the hardware that I would suggest improvement on. The first is to include a physical slide cover for the video camera. This is a matter of privacy and never having to wonder whether some background program is recording you.
The second is to go back to a touchpad that uses separate buttons for clicking. The problem I found is that clicking and dragging is difficult because the portion of the pad used for clicking is also used for moving the pointer. This means that if you are holding a click you are also holding the pointer stationary. This has not dissuaded me from liking the laptop though, because I have always preferred using an external mouse anyway. Everything else about the laptop makes it a great investment.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by pamr556 WIndows 8.1 is now user friendly!
Since Windows 8.1 came out, I thought I'd try it, and found it to be very user friendly, and I was able to use it immediately with no learning curve. Yes, there's still the Start Page with all the boxes, but I don't use them. The HP Envy will load my regular old home page on my desktop first. If you right click on the Start Page button in the bottom left corner, there's a drop-down list of almost everything you might want, similar to when you used to just hit the Start button on Vista or XP. The HP Envy is a joy to use, very fast. Easy to set up. No compatibility issues with all of my software from Vista. Easy wizards to help you set up a network, a printer, etc. I love it!

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Mark26 Great product, but support not always up to par
The first computer was defective and was replaced. Initial agents were extremely helpful and diligent. Once replacement came, some agents were unwilling to help with questions.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Georgia92 Very good performer
I purchased this system with the NVidia graphics card, a Blu-Ray player, and the 1080p monitor. It handles the games I play and looks great. Watching t.v. shows or movies is really fun. The fan will kick into high if I play games on high settings, so I run my games on medium settings so that it will keep its cool and run quieter.
I also purchased the 24gb hard drive cache. This results in an amazingly fast start up and fast execution of programs that you use often. Highly recommended.
You have to learn to deal with Windows 8 and all the bloatware that comes on today's systems. I spend all of my time in the desktop, and I've replaced all the bloatware with software of my choosing.
Overall, this is a very good performer in its price range. It looks great, it's very powerful, the keyboard is fine, and I've had no problems with it.
