The 17 inch screen is great and the HD image is terrific. Performance is solid for a laptop that won't break the bank. It is a little big to carry around, but I use it primarily on my desk, so that isn't a big factor.

I don't know if it was the new windows 8.1 operating interface or the laptop itself, but it was really slow compared to my 2 year old HP Pavilion 15" laptop with windows 7, so I sent it back.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Apollo100 Great Product, Lots of capability, small battery
Custom built the laptop out of the options available for use by my son in his high school work. The Laptop has abundant memory and processing power. The display is large, clean and clear. The laptop is physically quite large, needed for the display size, however, the closed profile is thin and easy to carry. In all quite satisfied with the product in every respect except it's battery size and life. The options did not include a higher capacity battery, hopefully one will be available from HP soon. The standard battery provides about 2 hours of use before requiring the adapter be used, else the machine shuts down. The 2 hours includes simple wireless browsing, with no BLE, significant CPU or graphics intensive applications (such as gaming or engineering applications)..
Be careful with options like the port replicator. It may not be compatible with graphics options selected with the laptop when you build your machine on teh website. While compatibility warnings may be present, I did not see any when the devices were ordered.

This laptop is fast and has great features. The 17 inch screen is clear. I am disappointed to
find dings/flaws on the interior of the screen. Will contact HP about this issue. Next time I
will order a blu-ray drive. Overall, this notebook is easy to use and contains a host of features.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by studentNgamer Good performance, Questionable keyboard
I bought this laptop as an upgrade from a 6 year old hp dv7. I did order mine with the Nividia GeForce 750M graphics card, backlit keyboard, and 12GB of ram. Ive had this laptop for about 3 months now and have been using it daily.
My main uses for the machine are running the adobe creative suite softwares, mainly Phtotoshop, Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver. And games such as portal 1&2, minecraft, Oblivion, LOL and dmc. along with other General Steam Games. These all work wonderfully, many of the games run at, or close to the highest settings while using the Nividia. While using the integrated graphics minecraft runs well, though bumps a bit when generating chunks in the extreme mode. The laptop does heat up while playing games, just keep it on a hard surface so that the vents and fan can do their job. (great for warming hands in the winter!) I have no complaints with any of the design softwares, they run amazingly smooth.
Windows 8 comes on this machine, and honestly it is not that difficult to learn to use. The only problem with Windows 8 I have had has been with games. Some games do not play nicely with 8 yet, though I have yet to not be able to play any particular game on 8 (after some configuring), and you can always install 7 if 8 bothers you that much. I find most of the apps useless to me, though the Netflix app is nice to have.
My two main complaints with this machine is the backlit keyboard, and how the keyboard is floppy on the left side. When the keyboard backlight is on you see the light through the bottom of the keys and not through the letters themselves. It works, but is bright and not necessarily in the places you would want it to be. Also from about the T key to the Q key the keyboard is easily indented when you press the keys. (There are numerous videos showing this) This does not affect my typing, but does worry me about the build quality. The rest of the laptop seems to be built very sturdy.
All and all a good laptop. Do your research, figure out what you really need in your machine to meet your needs.
