Rated 4 out of 5Â by WilliamR Good except for the Leap function
This computer is being pushed on the public before it is ready. The supposedly best feature is the worst feature. This Leap program is not ready for public use and needed to spend more time in the Engineering and Test phase. I had to go to the supposed experts HP has to explain and show you how to use the program. I was with him for over an hour while he had to research steps along the way. I will give him credit for knowing as much as he did because I went through a few phone numbers and technicians before someone said he could help me. Yesterday I was ready to box this device up and ship it back but I let my Son go through the programs and he was impressed with Windows 8.1 64 from his version of 8. He was pleased with the quickness and easiness it was to go through the different programs and felt the Windows had made a big Leap (no pun intended). and told me to complement those who changed it. Now that is from someone who has a vast knowledge of computers and their good and bad points. He convinced me to give it a few more weeks to see if I could adapt to the computer and said as far as he was concerned this was an excellent computer as far as he could tell in the short time he had to use it.
so, that being said, I will hold on to this Leap computer and spend more time trying to find the real Expert on the system. I will say I felt like I was getting used to Windows 8,1 64 and do go along with comments from my Son and add to that, that I do like the sound system and all the special features this computer has on it.
I would make comments on my calling to exchange this computer but it seems I could not get another one that fit most of my upgrades, not more upgrades just the ones I have. I will also comment on the majority of the technicians I have talked to on this device as well as my past device and want you to know you have many good people working for you. Keep that part up and you will continue having satisfied customers.

I love the ability to change the size so I can read it easily. Windows 8.1 is awesome.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by jakespeed overheats under graphics load
the laptop seemed like a good bang for the buck & works great for surfing & email. however, i upgraded to the nvidia geforce gt750m with 4gigs of mem and later realized it was money down the drain as the graphics cards overheats within minutes when under load causing the audio & video of the laptop to become unresponsive. hp provided inadequate cooling for the graphics card. also i have frequent problems with the wifi going out where other wifi devices in the same room work fine. i've tried both N & G networks. i'm considering upgrading my wifi card. save you money on the leap-motion. it's neat unfortunately but has no use.

I bought one of the original HP envy laptops which I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and performance so when it came time to replace I priced out some pretty high end custom laptops but eventually settled with the latest HP envy because the price and my personal experience with my current laptop. To say I was disappointed with the replacement is an understatement. I purchased the Windows 8.1 upgrade and within an hour I was wiping my hard drive and installing Windows 7. This is not HP's issue obviously but I will tell you with Windows 8.1 this machine performed terribly. I threw in a SSD and installed Windows 7 and its a whole different animal. The performance is fantastic but getting there was another story altogether. One of the things I loved about my first Envy is the software was set up and configured correctly and rock solid. Backing up and restoring was easy. The new laptop, when I installed Win 7 I found getting drivers was a total pain. When it started up, no network adapter drivers, no USB, no sound or graphics. No mouse, no network adapter, couldn't use a USB adapter temporarily to get the drivers because I had no USB drivers. I worked through all these issues so the only real disappointments I am left with are leap motion which is totally useless and the build quality of this laptop which is very cheap compared with my first envy. In a nutshell, setting up this laptop was a traumatizing experience, I find the build quality below standard and leap motion a useless feature. Not the same experience I had with my first HP Envy laptop.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by kirkL good performance..skip the Leap feature
the overall performance is solid; the Leap feature is a total waste..it does NOTHING!! Battery life also is not good..maybe 3 hours..For this price, you can get a better computer than this.

First off, the leap motion technology is next to useless. When I got the computer the space bar wasn't working unless pressed in the exact middle. The quality of the parts was so poor that the space bar would bend on the sides like a flimsy wet noodle when pressed instead of the entire space bar going down to indicate the space button was being pressed. The sound on it is barely audible even though they advertise the "beats" as some great audio innovation. It really seems as though this computer was put together to maximize profits while skimping on quality. It was a really, really bad experience.
