Customer ratings and reviews for HP ENVY 17t-j100 Leap Motion QE CTO Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

Rated 1 out of 5 by Not a good choice 1. The leap motion hardware is not easy to use. If you see the pictures on the leap motion website and see what I can do with Leap Motion, you would think that my product was defective. 2. Leap motion only works with Leap Motion software. That should be disclosed to buyers. 3. I thought all the envy computers had a back-lit keyboard. This one doesn't. Hard to use in the dark. 4. It would be nice if HP had a satisfaction guarantee. Rated 3 out of 5 by Doesn't perform up to Specs A very sleek looking and solidly built laptop. Not so heavy for all the hard drive space and impressive features it has. Unfortunately the Leap Feature is virtually unusable. Not only is it inconsistent in recognizing where your hands are (even if you're sitting still) but this spec-wise impressive system will come crashing down and makes terrible noises out of the speakers as the apps crash one by one. The only video game I have tried on it so far only requires about 60 FPS to be played and as soon as the game started and throughout the duration of the 30 minute game the screen was so choppy I haven't played on the laptop again. The speakers are pretty weak too and if you turn them up all the way they can't maintain sound integrity and make sharp noises. I guess it is my fault for not basing my purchase on reviews and just on which computer seemed to be a good Christmas deal. January 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by 17T-J100 Great features for the price. Purchased expecting the LEAP Motion controller to be integrated to Windows 8 so I wouldn't need to touch a screen to activate a tile or icon. I don't relish cleaning a touch screen often to remove body oils etc. This was my main reason to purchase this laptop. I had hoped the LEAP Motion controller would allow me to point to activate an icon, motion with my hand as if doing a right to left slide on a touchscreen to bring up the Charm bar, etc. Can't figure out if I am missing something or if this isn't a feature in the LEAP Motion controller software. Love the backlit keyboard. Extremely useful in low light conditions. Very clear and crisp screen and the controls for volume, screen brightness, etc. much better than previous HP models with Quick play buttons. I am a Power user and the layout of the keyboard and the built in touchpad works real well for my big hands, great key spacing and the touchpad works real well to use Windows 8 screen gestures. Overall well worth my investment. January 12, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by A good laptop ruined by the Leap Motion sensor. I thought that for the price, the HP Envy was a great deal with the $500 off coupon. The laptop was well constructed, had great specs, and performed well. But the Leap Motion was a big disappointment. I spent at least six hours playing with the leap motion sensor and spent money buying leap motion apps to try and make it work with Win 8.1. I finally realized that the leap motion was never going to allow me to run applications and Win 8.1 fluently. If only the machine had come with a touch screen. Then I could run the applications with the touch screen and the leap motion would have been a bit of a toy, which was fun to play with. I found Win 8.1 to also be a disappointment, in that it was difficult to run several applications with a mouse and keyboard. Why Microsoft didn't allow users to run Win 8.1 similar to Win 7 is beyond me. The only other wish that I would add for this machine is the addition of a SSD drive, since I love the one that I have in my HP desktop. HP did a great job of allowing me to send the laptop back and I would definitely buy from HP again. January 11, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by One problem This PC is really fast. However, the keyboard seems not to be attach to the PC firmly. When I touch it, the keyboard move up and down. I have no idea what I can do about it. It is really hard to find someone who can help fix it. January 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This has been a wonderful laptop I got this for a Christmas present for myself. I've been wanting a good, high end gaming laptop for some time now. This one came up on a good sale I couldn't pass up. It has been the best, fastest computer I have ever owned, and I've owned quite a few. I hook it up to my 40" monitor through the HDMI cable and I have a USB wireless mouse and keyboard so the laptop just sets on my desk out of the way. Then, when I go out and about, I carry it with me and have it's crisp, clear monitor to use. Best of both worlds. I do a lot of artwork, which is memory intensive. It has breezed right through it. The only time I have run out of memory is when I play Skyrim on full high settings with all the memory intensive mods I have running also. Then I wish I had upgraded to 16GB of ram instead of the 8GB that I got. That's an easy, fairly inexpensive fix in the near future. January 11, 2014
