I bought this laptop under the impression that it would last me a very long time, has a long battery life, and is great for school. In less than one month, I've had the touch screen stop working and had to get it fixed, I've had the operating system stop working, apps crashing, internet not working on safe websites and had to restore the laptop to its original factory settings. Say good bye to all the documents, pictures, videos and music you had saved there. I exchanged this laptop for a new one, being under a warrantee and being informed that these things "usually don't happen".
Now in less than ONE YEARS time, I've had to restore this new laptop to its original settings 4 TIMES. For those of you keeping track, thats a total of 5 TIMES NOW. IN LESS THAN A YEAR.
As a university student, not only do i NOT have the time to get my NEW laptop fixed every month, but i also lose all of my important documents saved on it. Sure, i could have saved them elsewhere - which after the 2nd system reboot, I've learned was essential to do - but when your laptop is less than 1 year old, that should NOT be a priority - infact its a nuisance.
Now I've recently went to the store in which i purchased this defected product and had complained about its lack of dynamic functioning , and i was told that "these issues are common with HP". After a lenghtly discussion about the service i was recieved, i had my laptop sent to the HP manufacturers and spent 3 weeks without it. Again, as a university student, that was a great inconvenience to my work. After getting my laptop back, and having the harddrive and the fan replaced and getting the op reinstalled, I thought all would be well and i would'nt have to worry about my laptop breaking down any time soon. BUT NOOOO. 2 DAYS. MY LAPTOP LASTED LESS THAN 48 HOURS and IT STOPS WORKING. AGAIN. Saying that i had to update my laptop (after getting it fixed??).
In conlcusion, this laptop clearly will not last me a very long time, the battery life is only about 4.5 hours - which as a full time student means i have to carry around a charger - making its light weight feature irrelevent, and it is exceedingly unreliable and unsuitable for school work.
The only conditions in which i would reccommend this laptop would be if you enjoy monthly visitations to your local Future Shop/Best Buy to give complaints about your brand new laptop , then by all means, buy the Hp Envy TouchSmart 14t-k100 Ultrabook.

This the first Ultrabook that I have purchased. I specked the 14 in screen because I travel and wanted a size compatible for traveling. I am replacing a 13 in laptop, this screen was too small as I got older. The only thing I am not happy about is not having a replaceable battery but all the UB laptops seemed to be the same as far as the battery options.
I have not taken advantage of the USB 3.0 ports (still have USB 2 devices). Because I use laptops for technical field system support I am not convinced that Win 8.1 is going to be comparable with the older technical software that I use.,The jury's still out on this one

This laptop extremely slow, at start up and with operation. Problem slow Hard Drive, more then 5MB paging it become very slow and takes a several minutes to complete some tasks. If you plan use Windows 8, I advice to buy laptop with SSD hard drive or at least with Hybrid drive.

⢠14.0-inch diagonal HD + LED-backlit Display Touchscreen (1600 x 900)

⢠1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
⢠24GB flash Hard Drive Acceleration Cache
⢠No Additional Office Software
⢠Security Software Trial
⢠3 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
⢠External Tray Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
⢠Backlit Keyboard
⢠HP TrueVision HD Webcam w/ integrated digital mic
⢠802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) [2x2]
The first laptop I received was extremely slow. Slow start up, internet crashed on safe websites, apps crashing & not working. Contacted HP support they walked me through several steps all the way to reinstalling windows all together. Still the laptop did not perform well. Exchanged it for a new one. When the new laptop arrived the keyboard backlit would not turn off even when pressing the F5 backlit button. Then when typing emails & a note on sticky notes the keyboard would not work properly particularly the backspace button & the space bar. I would type 5 words and they would not appear at all. Then I restarted the computer and just a white screen popped up. Windows did not start at all. Just a blank white screen. Turned it on & off several times and plugged & unplugged it. No success. Still stuck with the white screen. I will be returning my second defected laptop. I will try a third time with the same features. Three strikes you're out HP. Three strikes.

This Envy notebook died after 3 days of operation. I have spent about 12 hours attempting to get a return authorization from HP without success.
