Customer ratings and reviews for HP 12C Financial Programmable Calculator

Rated 5 out of 5 by 25 Years And Still Going! I bought my HP 12C in 1985 when I started in real estate. It has been my financial calculator for 25 years and has never failed. I think I've only had to replace the batteries twice in all that time. It easily handles all real estate, banking, mortgage lending, investing and any other financial calculations you can think of. If you're so inclined you can program it for particular problems that you do repeatedly. This is such a great calculator that I'm thinking of buying another one, just in case my 25-year-old stops working. (It's shown no such signs, but I wouldn't want to be without it.) If you're thinking about buying a financial calculator, look no further. You won't be disappointed with this one. November 8, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by HP-12 I bought one of the first HP-12's out (I think it was 1978 & cost $119.95). I still use it today as I have every day since then. I have been a real estate broker, appraiser, & mortgage auditor. I have even taught classes in the use of the HP-12. The use has been terrific ! I have a couple of programmed functions I use all the time. The numbers have worn off the back; HP has replaced the pad several times, but the calculator never fails. It is impossible to outdo this unit for the money. Howelse could it still be in production this long? April 4, 2009
Rated 2 out of 5 by shocked at poor quality I am a HP fan, with HP laptop and desktops, and have used an HP 12C for more than two decades. I lost my original HP12C less than a year ago and had to replace it with another HP 12C, but the new one's screen goes blank unexpectedly when imputing numbers and prints error messages when there was no error and does this so often now that it must be replaced in less than a years ownership. Unclear why HP lowered the build quality on the product that made me an HP repeat customer. I would gladly pay more for better quality. September 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by So Far So Good! After reading the many stories, and listened to those people who had used the older HP12C before, I carefully made my purchase. I agree with many of the folks who said that this was not exactly like the older models...It is true that the case was too small and therefore, it got pitched...I barely got the old case to fit the new case but this is exactly what I felt was needed. The old model that was made in Brazil was a bit heavier and the keyboard felt like a "superior" calculator! The new one is a bit cheaper and its definitely not like the new one. I have had the old since 1985 and used it regularly until recently when it died...But despite all the negatives, the new HP12C is still great! I don't know how long it will work and maybe HP will go back to the old manufacturing. I will stick this out and if I have to recommend it, I definitely would. Good luck to all of us who know the old from the new and still would make the purchase! Believe in us and stop searching because this is still one of the best financial calculators! Just Go For It! Rated 5 out of 5 by this is a great unit I used my old one for over 20 yeaaars then retired and it broke so I got a new one May 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Calculation Corrections I've used this product for almost 20 years for financial and accounting applications and it remains as reliable as ever. For those who referenced incorrect mortgage calculations, you have your settings programmed to calculate at the 'Beginning' of the monthly billing cycle, rather than the 'End'. To change, simply press the blue 'G' key and then the #8 key (end). In your scenario, the $200,000 mortgage at 5% interest for 30 years will result in $1,069.12 if you have it set to calculate at the Beginning cycle or will result in $1,073.68 if set to calculate at the 'End' cycle. You can toggle between Beginning and End cycles by pressing the blue 'G' key then pressing 7 (for Beginning) or 8 (for Ending). March 27, 2014
