I bought this to replace a 2003 HP desktop. The programs that I use are huge and would slow my old computer down. This new Envy doesn't even seem to notice. l I love the speed!
The fan is so quiet I can hardly hear it.
I didn't think I would like the keyboard. It is smaller than I was used to, but I won't be switching back. It reminds me of my laptop keyboard. It takes up so little room on my desk.
Not a fan of the mouse, too flat.
The Windows 8 also takes a little getting used to. I love Windows 7, so I think I just need a little more time to figure it out.
Overall, I am very happy with the upgrade.

The Phoenix meets all my needs in computing. No problems, it just keeps chugging away and is also very quite. Thanks HP

I wanted this machine, as a steady machine that could do multiple tasks, easily, quickly, quietly all without overheating the chip.
I am an avid IT computer person, had a HP dv7 laptop, loved it, so gave this a try.
It is EXPENSIVE. No question about it.
It came with Windows 8, which I cannot stand. I've had this now for about 1 month, and have already gone to so many forums to fix the problems that windows 8 has, that I wonder if I made a good investment to get this computer.
I usually build custom rigs, and then run the windows meter in the control panel for speed. This rig, new, out of the box with updated drivers and a 2 G DDR5 Nvidia graphics driver 8core i7 CPU had a score that was only .3 faster than my quad core AMD custom built PC that is 3 years old. After seeing the score, I was clearly not impressed with what I have got for the money, all along still fixing the problems from the Win 8 operating system.
If you're a newbie, and you enjoy the Win 8 operating system, afraid to get into the nuts and bolts of what's going on inside and under the hood, this is a good computer. It runs and runs and runs, smooth, and cool. It has a liquid coolant system on the CPU which keeps it very cool as well ~ but it is not as quiet as I had expected.
All in all, it's an upgrade from what I had. It has warranties on so many parts, so that alone should be sufficient for me to accept the price on the system.
It has only been a month, but so far, it's great for what I need as long as Win 8 is not in play. I have actually already set up to log on automatically as administrator to get past the problems I keep encountering on the app screen of Win 8. I can't blame the computer for that, only microsoft.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by MarkS21 Great hardware, OS had issues
Hardware and specs are fantastic. I added an additional 16GB RAM to the installed 12GB - although I had to take apart the cooling mechanism first.
I bought the system with the 256GB SSD to be used for the OS and programs. Customer service was unable to give me specs on the SSD in advance, only stating that it would be top-of-the-line. Turns out it is an older Micron model that rates poorly compared to other SSD, but I question whether there is any real world noticeable difference.
I added my own two 2TB WD Black Caviar HDD's.
Windows 8: the preinstalled OS was corrupted. The Metro interface did not function correctly. Apps did not open. Some programs that I installed on my own did not work properly. There were multiple errors. I had to go through 2 complete reinstalls of the OS until a stable point was reached.
Not sure where the blame for this should go. I think it's possible that HP tinkered too much with the OS. I would have preferred a clean WIndows 8 installation without HP bloatware. FYI, you can easily delete the Metro apps permanently via command line prompts - check Google.
Overall, the hardware and build is top notch. The machine runs pretty quiet, no real problems with unusual fan noise.

Much of what I do on the computer is Photoshop CS6 Extended, and this HP Envy makes short work out of the most memory and GPU-intensive features of Photoshop.

I absolutely love my new HP. I wanted the best and I got it. Not a problem one. This is my 3rd HP. Stepped up each time. Sitting at the top now. It doesn`t get any better than this.
